Flutes Trumpets Balloons Record samples of your sounds Work on your composition

3 Make Flutes from Bottles
Blow across the opening of the bottle to get a flute sound Pour some water into the bottle to change the pitch Create a pan-pipe instrument by using three or more bottles with different amounts of water Experiment with the bottles to create a melody using high, medium and low sounds You can work with a partner if you want to have more pitches

4 Make Trumpets from Bottles
Cut the end off one of the bottles Buzz your lips into the opening of the bottle to get a trumpet sound You can get different pitches by making the bottles larger or smaller Experiment with the bottles to create a melody using high, medium and low sounds You can work with a partner if you want to have more pitches

5 Record Samples Record samples of your wind sounds using the SoundEditor, as you did last week. Record some flute sounds Record some double reed sounds Record some trumpet sounds Keep the best sounds for next week You should keep at least one sound from each type

6 Prepare the Sounds Clean up the sounds using CoolEdit, as you did last week. Convert your .wav file to sampling rate. All the .wav files must use the same sampling rate Convert your .wav file to mono. This exercise will be easier if all your sample files are mono Make sure you have only one sound in each file. Get rid of any unnecessary noise at the beginning and the end of each sound.

7 Cover the Hole with a Balloon
Cover the hole tightly with a balloon Use rubber bands to hold it on Blow across the other end like a flute Press lightly with your finger on the balloon to change the pitch Record some tones and prepare and save the best ones double balloon flute big membrane flute

8 Work on Your Composition
If you have extra time, you can try using some of your new sounds in your composition Listen to your composition and change anything that you want to improve You may want to repeat it with some variation
