Spectrometer Solenoid Update (MICO) - SV/MZ2 Status Magnet 2 is partially disassembled —location and cause of lead break not yet determined Inspected by Fermilab colleagues to look at the magnet with “fresh eyes” —they will report their observations and suggestions to MZ o probably not for a few weeks —they have asked for some drawings, which the vendor will provide (through Steve) o non-disclosure agreement was signed during visit

3. May 17, 2010Spectrometer Solenoid Update (MICO) - SV/MZ3 Plans Disassembly will proceed to determine location and cause of failed lead —requires removal of Magnet 1 from assembly fixture so it can be used on Magnet 2 We requested that LBNL representative be present when turret side plates removed —likewise when vacuum vessel opened, so we can observe condition of MLI After cold mass is removed, it will be leak checked Thereafter, cold mass will be (carefully!) cut open in area of lead feed-throughs towards quench protection system —care will be taken to preserve condition of leads for inspection Hope to get all this done within 3 weeks
