1 Genetics Objectives: - I can describe the basic structure of a cell. - I can explain how the structures of the cell relate to its function.

2 Genetics Vocabulary Genetics: The science of how traits are passed down from generation to generation. Traits: The physical or behavioral characteristics that can be passed down generations.

3 Cell Vocabulary Organelles: Structures inside the cell that perform special functions Nucleus: The control center of the cell. It contains DNA. DNA: The genetic material in a cell that stores the genetic information.

6 Warm-Up: Add the Organelle(s) to your cell vocab. and draw and label it in you cell diagrams. Cell Membrane- Covering around the cell that allows materials to flow in and out. Cytoplasm- Jelly like substance that fills up the space inside a cell.
