2  Explore methods to connect Mission developers to standards experts. Active feedback to new missions to encourage them to use the existing standards or lacking appropriate standard to write up the standards they need. › Better instruction needed on website including steps and timeline tied to mission phases and reviews › SPG meeting invites. › Participation in mission reviews. › Publish success stories › Add data systems standards to "Gold Rules”  Identify interfaces that lack standards.  ESDIS must identify to SPG the missions/projects that require interaction.  Standard review process as driver for standard maturity. 11/3/11 SPG / ES-DSWG / 3 November 2011 / Newport News 1

3  Level 1 requirement to use SPG standards is a game changer both for projects and for SPG  Expert Committee review as substitute for or to augment community review. › MENDS example  ESDIS development as substitute for SPG › ESDIS provenance and preservation standard example  Review mission proposals to deviate from standards.  Assigned resources to working groups by ESDIS to augments continued participation by interested stakeholders. 11/3/11 SPG / ES-DSWG / 3 November 2011 / Newport News 2

4  Facilitate community promotion of standards and participation by self- nominated community stakeholders  Advise on data systems standards beyond (only) data and metadata.  Monthly telecon as coordinating activity › TWGs work on discrete work – no standing committees. 11/3/11 SPG / ES-DSWG / 3 November 2011 / Newport News 3

5  Develop new Charter and process documents to reflect changes  Work with ESDIS-assigned missions to establish/verify compliance with their level 1 requirement to choose standard from SPG list.  Website content review.  Document usage of existing standards  Participate with Reference Architecture Working Group.  Enable social media methods for standards discussion (user community nuggets, suggestions, etc... moderated)  Develop recommendations for how to treat mission/project use of Earth science data systems standards other than data and metadata.  Systematic review of ACCESS and MEASURES use of standards for potential RFC. 11/3/11 SPG / ES-DSWG / 3 November 2011 / Newport News 4
