NRCO #71: preliminary analysis of MOS data Andrea Tiengo INAF, IASF-Milano Mallorca, 8 April 2008 EPIC Calibration Meeting

A. Tiengo - Mallorca, 8 April 2008 NRCO #71 3 observations of Tycho SNR:  2007-12-30: medium MOS1: 17 ksMOS2: 19 ks  2008-01-01: CALmedium MOS1: 46 ksMOS2: 36 ks  2008-01-03: CALclosed MOS1: 26 ksMOS2: 26 ks

A. Tiengo - Mallorca, 8 April 2008 CALmedium: MOS2 image

A. Tiengo - Mallorca, 8 April 2008 MOS spectra

A. Tiengo - Mallorca, 8 April 2008 MOS spectra

A. Tiengo - Mallorca, 8 April 2008 CALmedium: Mn/Fe lines Mn Fe

A. Tiengo - Mallorca, 8 April 2008 CALmedium: Mn/Fe lines 5.8-6 keV6.2-6.6 keV

A. Tiengo - Mallorca, 8 April 2008 Mn/Fe lines Fe line shifted to higher energy Same line width Mn line shifted to higher energy Mn line centroid and width much better constrained than Fe

A. Tiengo - Mallorca, 8 April 2008 Conclusions & future work In region illuminated by CAL source and Tycho SNR: Mn line is narrower and more intense than Fe line  CAL source much better than SNR to constrain gain and CTI Will it be still true when CAL source intensity decayed? Mn and Fe line centroids are significantly shifted during  CAL source cannot be easily used to calibrate gain and CTI during normal sky observations Can CTI and gain be better constrained in a global spectral fit including all calibration source and astrophysical lines?
