MICE Engineering Integration Update August 13, 2003 Edgar L. Black IIT

Integration concerns : Verification of the experiment overall physical parameters of assembly –Magnets dimensions and interrelated locations. –Focus coils and hydrogen absorbers dimensional interface & constrains. –Coupling coils and RF cavities dimensional interface and constrains. –Detectors assemblies/cooling channel interface and protection considerations

Current MICE magnet coils layout

MICE magnets geometry parameters – Ref. R B Palmer – Draft 8/11/03

Layout of the experiment, final assembly

The drawing in the previous slide, represent the new focus/hydrogen module design with the modified parameters. Nomenclature of the MICE elements were copied from table 3.1 on section 3 of the proposal Note the TOF 2 and the Cherenkov are transpose in the table. ?

Modified focus/absorber module

ABSORBER/VACUUM CHAMBER DETAIL

Dimension on this layout indicate that both cases welded and non-welded windows are feasible to assembly and install in this module within the focusing magnet bore. Aspects of safety reliance however, requires a verification program for each case; the program will establish the necessary steps for testing each design case for integrity of welds, in the welded, and for the seals and retainers in the non-welded cases, both in compliance with the ASME and safety specifications.

Safety issues Protection of the detectors from radiation during the cooling channel (RF) preparation shall be provided The modules enclosure impermeability, gas barrier continuity up to the detectors vessels need to be analyze Additional windows for the detectors, locations and sizes shall be determined

Partial detector cooling channel safety related assembly details

MICE layout including the proposed detectors shielding components

NOTE : IN THIS LAYOUT THE EXPERIMENT APEARS TO OBEREXTEND BEYOND THE LEVEL GROUND FLOOR ?

Preliminary MICE end view in the RAL facility
