Folksonomy “A folksonomy is a system of classification derived from the practice and method of collaboratively creating and managing tags to annotate and categorize content.” Isabella Peters (2009), “Folksonomies. Indexing and Retrieval in Web 2.0”. Berlin: De Gruyter Saur 2

Folksonomy Advantages compared to fixed vocabulary classification: Every user can participate Search keywords are given by those users who actually use them Hidden information and context is made available 3

Folksonomy Disadvantages Not a defined approach of indexing  df 4 Bookbuch bookschristianheilmann bücherdustindiaz javascript php Windows Bücherregal bush ?

Other ways to get tags: Opencalais 5 A Thomson Reuters initative Launched in January 2008 Ingests unstructued text and returns RDF formatted results identifying Entities Facts Events Let‘s see an easy example of what Opencalais is capable of...

so what do we have, what do we want? 6 We have: Information from WGA about paintings: Author, place and year of birth, death, title, date, technique, location, form, type, school, timeline and a description! About 20.000 paintings are categorized We want: Tags and information that is not obvious

In order to get further information, we make use of 7 Opencalais Flickr Image Matching Youtube We even tried twitter

Outlook 8 Make tags available in 3D environment Make tags changeable in the 3D environment If tags are added, also add them in Flickr Combine with other semantic databases (freebase, etc.) Add more social features to the 3D environment Videos inside-picture tagging add a fixed vocabulary (dbpedia)

What else have we done 9 Working on publications! We published about book-chapter „Museums on the Web: Interaction with Visitors“ for a handbook called „Handbook of Research on Technologies and Cultural Heritage: Applications and Environments“ We will present our PhD-Progress at the ICWE 2010 Doctoral Consortium Working on paper for the DIMEA 2010 (Digital Interactive Media Entertainment and Arts) in Taiwan
