Online Reconstruction Update Linda R. Coney UCR Mar 25, 2010

At Nov Collaboration Mtg Now: –Read out and decode DATE DAQ from MICE beam data (Online Mon) –Can reconstruct TOF, CKOV, Tracker data offline –Initial version of G4MICE Online Reconstruction Application v1 written –Parallel processing solution possibility: PROOF Next: –Implement online reconstruction for Step I –Goal to see first plots in MLCR by end November Start with TOFs and CKOV –Gather more requests for Online Reco plots Eventually: –Include necessary information for further steps –Routinely have shifters monitoring detectors and MICE physics in MLCR 2

Online Reconstruction Read data –Questions: Read from socket (as Online Monitoring) or from data file? –Issues: How read socket data? Will it affect DAQ? Decision: Read directly from the socket. –From Online Reconstruction computers (remote read). –Reading from data file introduces data access complications. Process data –Use only released version of reconstruction software –Online Reco in CVS –Offline reconstruction code used to process data, histograms specific to Online Reco produced –Application: OnlineReconstruction –Iterative process – initial version only has TOF information Progress: –Official release made of G4MICE –Online Reco computers updated to this latest release –This includes OnlineReconstruction Application – and other analysis Applications 3

Online Reconstruction2 Create plots –Use Root – Parallel processing on the different online reco computers PROOF is good way to accomplish this – Paul Kyberd PROOF is installed on OnRec computers – not yet tested – single process so far Save data –Online Reco root files will be saved along with the run data and the Online Monitoring files –OnRec.####.root Already works for Data and Online Monitoring Files No OnRec root files produced yet 4

Online Reconstruction Now Read data directly from the socket Live data remotely accessed during every Run –(OnRec machines to DAQ machines) G4MICE OnlineReconstruction Application installed with official release of software Able to run any G4MICE Application using the DATE reader ONLINE Online Reconstruction plots used to identify and diagnose problems during running –ex. Crate failure Online Reco used to study beam dynamics –ex. Strange muon beam 5

Online Now Online Monitoring moved to OnRec machine –Ease burden on DAQ machine –Also reads from socket like OnlineReco Online Monitoring running successfully Addendum to OnMon instructions written and on MICO manuals page Changes made to DateReader –(Vassil’s talk) OnRec machines updated to cvs version 1.12.12 in order to support cvs repository Instructions for running OnReco written 5

Online Reconstruction in Action Screen-shot of TofMonitor running online over live data during emittance measurement data-taking Dec09 6

Online TofMonitor Muon beamline 7

Online Reconstruction ToDo Enable live plotting for OnlineReconstruction Application (as works for TofMonitor) Implement PROOF parallel processing Improve flexibility of OnRec operating Improve OnlineReconstruction Application to include more information –CKOV –CKOV, KL, EMR, Tracker, Beam variables, etc. Figure out how to do initial PID Incorporate run conditions into online reconstruction (requires configuration database) Implement modular code development structure 9

Online ToDo Finish writing description of plots –What should they look like –What do they mean –What should the shifters be looking for –If a problem occurs – what changes –Who do they call? Determine if need more presets Write detailed documentation of Online Reco for shifters Improve OnlineReconstruction Application to include more information 9

Conclusions Now: –Good progress has been made! –Online Reconstruction regularly running during data-taking –Successfully produced first plots using TOFs Next: –Increase ease of use –Implement modular code structure –Plot CKOV information..and more –Add to documentation Eventually: –Include necessary information for further steps –Routinely have shifters monitoring detectors* and MICE physics in MLCR 10

Online TofMonitor Remaining issue: Need to understand which calibration to useRemaining issue: Need to understand which calibration to use –Beamline setup changing and trigger conditions changing –Implies changes to TOF calibration –Should be able to use most recent version – unless radical changes 8 Data-taking: electron beam
