7 Data Processing De-clouding Sea Surface Temperatures SST is examined on a per-pixel basis to determine if cloud contamination is present. A series of 3 tests are performed and a mask value is assigned to each pixel denoting the results. Test 1: SST fails time test if > 2degC cooler than previous 72-hours mean Test 2: SST fails climatology if > 5degC colder than climatology Test 3: SST is sequentially run through time and climatology tests; neighboring pixels within 3km will also fail if test is not passed Mask Values (can be additive): 0: Most rigorous, pixel passes all tests 1: Pixel failed the time test 2: Pixel failed the climatology test 4: Pixel failed combined testing Suitable data is selected based on the desired mask value.
