Welcome to Heart Guard Technologies New Product Presentation

Company Structure BRYAN SCHURKO – CEO STEPHEN CZERNIEJ –CFO JOHN AZER –VP OPERATIONS VAHID SHABABI –VP MARKETING

Background & Motivations Why did we choose this Project? Why should you buy this product and not the similar one? –Cost Analysis –Functionality

Time Line How We Approached? Why We finished On-Time (Maybe a bit early!!)

Life Guarding and Rescue Scenarios What does a lifeguard do? How does a lifeguard deal with emergency situations? Vitals – Airway, Breathing, and Circulation

Changes in the Lifesaving World Lifeguards are unable to find pulses in emergency situations creating stress and poor first aid assessments.

New Protocol No check for Pulse/Circulation in victim assessment - considered ineffective. Give CPR to victims if not breathing ASAP, regardless of signs of circulation

The Need to Find Circulation in a Victim for a Lifesaver/Rescuer To limit stress and shock for the rescuer. To ensure fast assessment and proper first aid for victims. To relay accurate and effective information to the paramedics.

Hardware Overview Waterproof box Sensor circuit PIC Microcontroller LED display Infrared Sensor Audio Cable Battery Switch

Waterproof box Reasons for choosing this box: 1.Waterproof 2.Unique color that sticks out 3.Hard to break or crack (Better durability) 4.Easy access to internal components such as the battery, PIC, etc.

Sensor Circuit Signal IN Signal OUT

Filter Contains capacitors and resistors of certain value, designed to filter out noise picked up from the surroundings

Main Sensor Circuit Detects every heart pulse. Major component is: LM6484 CMOS OpAmps Benefits: 1.Does not need a negative rail like most opamps, hence, only one battery is necessary for powering it. 2.Low power consumption. 3.Convert the input signal to a rectangular wave (simplifies signal analysis)

One-Shot Timer Removes extra pulses in the digital signal coming from the main sensor circuit. Composed of a 555 timer Benefits: 1.Found in almost all electronic stores 2.Reliable 3.Easy to use

PIC Microcontroller Analyses the signal coming out of the one-shot timer. Benefits: 1.A group member (Bryan Schurko) was well experienced with this model. 2.Cheap compared to other microcontrollers 3.Provides many I/O’s 4.Low power consumption Model: 16F877A

LED Display Heart pulse is displayed on a 7-segment LED display. Benefits: 1.Cheaper than an LCD display 2.Easier to program than an LCD 3.Consumes less power than an LCD

Infrared Sensor Model: Cateye Clips onto human finger Contains Led infrared transmitter on one side, and a receiver on the other side. Other end of the sensor connects to an audio connector.

Audio Cable The sensor jack goes into an audio cable. Audio cable goes through the box, into the sensor chip, for pulse detection.

Battery 9V Alkaline Battery 5V voltage Regulator is used to step down the 9V coming out of the battery, into 5V, which goes into the sensor circuit.

Switch External to the box Covered with a waterproof casing.

System Overview

Infrared Pulse Sensor Small non-invasive finger probe Detects light levels by using a infrared LED and photo-sensor –Hemoglobin absorbs photons, sensor detects this

Analog Signal Conditioning Small, noise prone signal output by sensor Intermediate circuit –Filters, amplifies, and converts to discrete levels Original (Sensor) SignalFiltered/Amplified SignalDiscrete Signal

Processing: Microcontroller PIC Microcontroller accepts digital signal from circuit Contains pulse error sensing algorithms Averages previous 10 pulses to suppress errors

Processing: Error Suppression If the pulses are outside of our defined range or pulse widths are too small, the pulse will be ignored Red light turns on when enough pulses are faulty Signal going into PIC Visual signal after error suppression

Output: 7-Segment LED Output is displayed on three 7-segment displays Number displayed in beats per minute

Conclusion Out Future Plans –Marketing and Sales –Technical

Salary Total Budget for this Phase $100,000 –Bryan 25,000 –Stephen 25,000 –John 25,000 –Vahid 25,000 It was Based on –Collaboration
