GCOOS Observing System Committee Report Report to GCOOS Board of Directors September 5, 2007
Status of Observing System Plan A draft plan has been completed, but it has holes The OSC needs more complete information on what parameters need to be monitored and at what time and space scales in order to do a gap analysis and set priorities
Working to get a tool from CSC to extract information from the IOOS Regional Observation Registry Develop a survey for additional information about local Coastal Observation Systems Status of Observing System Plan
Need a set of requirements to plan and build a system around. Ensure compatibility with practices and procedures developed in the Data Nodes and Data Portal projects
Other Activities, Plans and Requirements Improve communications among committees and councils Obtain updated information about annual costs for operating existing systems to account for funds required for “base funding” in future proposals Gary Jeffress is working with NOAA to preserve GOM historical data sets
Other Activities, Plans and Requirements Membership: two members changed affiliations and one new member added (Alan Lewitus). A suggestion was made that since Don Conlee has left NDBC, that another NDBC person be added to the committee. Action Plan: the OSC is reviewing it’s Action Plan in preparation for the Nov. meeting.
