2 Review of Goal This presentation is designed for alumni groups that have already been chartered. You can expect to learn best practices that address the needs of non traditional charter groups like the Educational Opportunity Fund Program- Alumni Interest Group of Rutgers Newark and the Latino Alumni Association of Rutgers University (LAARU). Areas that will be covered are: Brief History Activating leadership/volunteers First Event/Meeting Consistency is key Engaging and sustaining all alumni Keep it real Alumni Leaders Conference October 14, 2011

3 EOF Alumni Interest Group RN The EOF Alumni Interest Group was chartered in 2009 First chartered organization on the Rutgers Newark campus catering to the EOF population. Group meets once a month in person or via conference call. Group takes full advantage of the alumni leader resources Alumni Leaders Conference October 14, 2011

4 Latino Alumni Assoc. of Rutgers University (LAARU) LAARU was founded in 2009 by three Rutgers Alumnae First chartered organization to cater to the Latino population on all 3 Rutgers campuses Group meets once a month in person and via conference call rotating meetings on all three campuses Group takes full advantage of alumni leader resources

5 EOF Alumni Interest Group of Rutgers Newark Leadership First Event/Meeting- Open House followed by launch meeting Consistency- active via org and RUAA sites, facebook, listserves Engaging all alumni of EOF Keep it real- think commuter campus and work collaboratively Latino Alumni Assoc. Rutgers University (LAARU) Leadership- Founders,5 strong alumni leaders and volunteers First Event/Meeting- Kick Off reception followed by launch meeting Consistency- active via org and RUAA sites, facebook, listserves, Center for Latino Arts Culture, monthly meetings and more! Engaging all alumni, graduate stu. community and beyond Keep it real- All leaders welcome to serve Alumni Leaders Conference October 14, 2011

6 Results EOF Alumni Interest Group of Rutgers Newark Leadership fluctuates Meetings- better rate via conference call Events- one in the fall and spring semesters. 50% participation rate better if collaborate with Alumni Office, similar groups Constitution/bylaws-No Latino Alumni Assoc. Rutgers University (LAARU) Leadership 5-7 active members Meetings- rate ranges between 10-20 ppl varies by campus. Events- few each semester mostly collaborate for reunion, homecoming, Rutgers Day and graduation Constitution/bylaws- Yes Alumni Leaders Conference October 14, 2011

7 Keep it Real Listen and delegate to your core leadership Continuously survey your population Stay active and visible Don’t change what works best You can’t please all alumni (there are 400,000!)
