7 This means that: Û Universities have different levels of library automation (1) Û Infrastructure (networks, computers, etc) is quite different among institutions (1) ÛStaff have different levels of training in ICT tools (2) Û Staff have different levels of knowlegde on the use of ICT to libraries, education and culture (2)

8 At the same time: The situation has been under constant evolution (in Latin America) and the conditions are improving!

9 Characteristics of the training program: Û Must be flexible to adjust to different groups Û Must be adaptive to include new topics (for example OAI), national aspects (MTD-Br) and to address the situation that the groups have better backgrounds

10 Persons to be trained: Û Library staff Û ICT team Û Graduate program staff and officers Û Students

11 Objectives of the training program: Û To provide a minimum common level on information and ICT tools to start a joint project Û To present the basic concepts of digital information, digital libraries, digital library processes, ETD’s, metadata, etc.

12 Û To develop the idea of team work among the different areas of the university (Thanx Joan!!) Û To identify the important aspects and steps of an ETD Project Û To guide the students in writing a pre- project to be taken back to their institutions and help them analyze the local situations, needs, priorities, etc.

13 Contents of the training program (as of today) : Û Information, digital information, ICT and digital libraries Û Standards, metadata and the OAI-PMH Û The ETD Project – processes, intellectual property, basic definitions for new T&D’s and retrospective capture
