D : Human Factor, Mobility and Marie Curie Actions Investing in research: An action plan for Europe “ More and more adequately skilled researchers will be needed in Europe in order to fulfil the targeted increase of investment in research by 2010. Increased investment in research will raise the demand for researchers : about 1.2 million additional research personnel, including 700.000 additional researchers, are deemed necessary to attain the objective…” (COM(2003)226 final and and SEC(2003)489 of 30.04.03)

D : Human Factor, Mobility and Marie Curie Actions Investing in research: An action plan for Europe Strengthening the human resources combination of initiatives Strengthening the human resources in research involves a combination of initiatives at national, regional and Community levels aiming at: ¶ Attracting more students to research increase financial incentives “Women and science” action plan students’ mobility ¶ Attracting more students to research, in particular through the increase in the national and Community financial incentives, the Science and Society initiatives, especially the “Women and science” action plan and the facilitation of the students’ mobility

D : Human Factor, Mobility and Marie Curie Actions A Mobility strategy for the ERA  The European Network of Mobility Centers will offer researchers and their families comprehensive and up- to-date information and personalized assistance in all matters relating to their professional and daily lives. In particular on: - visas - access to job market - social security - pension rights - taxation - housing and schooling - taxation - housing and schooling - access to the culture of the host country - access to language courses

D : Human Factor, Mobility and Marie Curie Actions A Mobility strategy for the ERA  Condition of admission of Third Country Researchers in Europe  Member States in collaboration with the Commission are invited to strengthen the actions being undertaken to develop the ERA, in particular by facilitating or continuing to facilitate entry and residence for researchers from third countries  Legislative initiative associated with an action plan foreseen for autumn 2003

D : Human Factor, Mobility and Marie Curie Actions Promoting the development of researchers in the ERA The forthcoming Communication “Researchers in the ERA: one profession, multiple careers” analyses the different elements characterising the profession and defines the various factors conditioning the development of researchers’ careers at European level considered from a geographical, sectoral or gender perspective. ê Collaborative partnership between academia and industry (…) has emerged as a critical imperative necessary to sustain transfer of knowledge and innovation.
