4 Project outline Investigate the record keeping requirements of the Bioterrorism Act of 2002 pertaining to the wine and grape industry. Survey Winemakers about their creation, use, and maintenance of electronic records. Investigate Electronic Records Management Systems for vineyard and winery management. Complete a case study. Develop record keeping recommendations for compliance with the Act.

5 Kari Smith, University of Michigan School of Information Significance of the research This research project explores the requirements for managing electronic records in accord with archival requirements by investigating a specific instance of record keeping as it evolves in response to legislated requirements. This project specifically addresses the preservation of software-dependent data objects. This kind of research is important because record keeping solutions need to stay responsive to evolving technological, economic, legislative, and other developments.
