2 To provide an understanding of the fundamental thermal behaviour and the disposal-end products of ACQ-treated woods, this study is comprised of two categories of examination. Introduction The first is related to the study of thermal decomposition. It examines the effectiveness of the pyrolysis of ACQ-treated woods and its preservatives, using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) under different thermal decomposition conditions (nitrogen or air, and 5 or 40 o C/min), and the use of Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometer (EDX) to examine certain residual elements of the char. 1/2 Perkin-elmer Pyris 1 TGA

3 The second is related to the research in combustion emissions from ACQ- treated woods. The emissions from the discharge gas during the ACQ- treated specimen combustion were investigated using the Continuous Emission Monitoring (CEM) techniques. 1/2 Fig. 1. Experimental diagrams of emissions gas measuring apparatus. Introduction

4 Aim of work Our goal was to acquire fundamental knowledge of the thermal behaviour and the gas emitted from air pollution of ACQ-treated woods hopefully, while at the same time obtaining a disposal-end practice (residual elements) reference for the char.

10 Conclusions 1.The char of ACQ-treated woods at air atmosphere were less than that at nitrogen. The pyrolysis temperature for the heating rate of 5 o C/min was lower than that of 40 o C/min, but both them were with the same amount of char. 2.The EDX analysis of ACQ-treated woods was obtained that the main element was C, 77.89 %, and that the relative proportion of Cu was 2.67 %. The main char of the ACQ-1 was Cu, 50.14 % which was almost unable to be combusted toward the end of the combustion. 3.In the results of CEM, the emission gas temperature of ACQ-treated woods and ACQ-1 rose rapidly up and then slowed down to become a Plateau curve. Both O 2 and CO 2 then approached the shape of a Plateau curve until the end of the combustion time, as well as had a close relationship during combustion. For both them of the maximum value of the emission content during the combustion, the emission quantity of CO was about 100-160 ppm, the SO 2 emitted gas was zero, the peak for NOx gas was about 25-30 ppm.
