3 Pedagogical Implications Digital Video as we believe, has many pedagogical benefits inside and outside of the classroom. Aside from lending itself well to pair/group projects, which is has been identified as an effective method in the ESL classroom; the camera allows the teacher to allocate for authentic learning/communication situations.

4 Pedagogical Implications Furthermore, this device enhances language learning as it can: Decrease learner anxiety Allow for active roles of all group members Create authentic language environment Create authentic language opportunities Motivate Complement the communicative approach Engage with digital natives

7 Example: Bug the Locals Level: Beginner Teaching Point: Question Formation In groups, students made lists of questions they could ask people in Athens. Groups went to our student center with cameras to find people to interview. They returned to class to analyze the videos.

9 Example: Commercial Level: Advanced After some academic readings about effective advertising techniques, students took cameras around campus to film commercials for “OPIE Cola.” Students used Movie Maker to edit the commercials afterward.
