3 3 Longitudinal Survey Engine (LSE) The LSE is an internet based survey engine that offers anonymity and privacy for exploring topics that otherwise might be too sensitive to effectively engage participants in scientifically meaningful disclosures. The LSE is designed for large sample longitudinal, epidemiologic, prevention, and intervention research protocols. Under these protocols, participants log in anonymously to create their own userid and passwords, to complete an initial survey of health and behavior. Thereafter, participants are invited to return for follow-up surveys, to obtain information provided on the website, and to participate in randomized trials of potentially health-promoting interventions, sometimes using randomized incentives to encourage a high level of return participation.

4 4 LSE Objectives Lower cost of longitudinal research Leverage large scale epidemiology studies to provide greater public health impact –Randomized trials –Interventions

5 5 Our online Longitudinal Surveillance Engine (LSE) project is equipped for delivery of flash videos. Here, you see a prototype set-up for a randomized trial to evaluate the Ad Council ’ s Love Handles public service announcement to promote exercise. (Play V1)
