2  Great Barrier Reef is over 2,000 km long and it is the largest structure ever made by living creatures  Tallest mountain: Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 m tall) in the Great Dividing Range  Nicknamed ‘Land Down Under’  Great Barrier Reef is one of the seven wonders of the world

3  Sydney Opera House  Ayers Rock or Uluru  Great Barrier Reef  Sydney Harbour Bridge

4  The Australian flag is known as the Commonwealth Blue Ensign.  The flag consists of The Crux constellation, the 7 pointed star and the Union Jack.  It is the only flag in the world that represents a whole continent.

5  The Commonwealth of Australia is a democracy.  Leaders are elected by the adult population.  The Queen of England has the title ‘Chief of State’.

6  Blue Tongued skink has a life span of up to 20 years.  Kangaroo is a marsupial whose tail helps it balance.  It can hop up to 9 metres long.  The Tasmanian Devil gets its name from its ability to scream loud.  The koala lives in trees and eats leaves.

7  Aborigines arrived over 40,000 years ago.  The Europeans arrived in 1788.  In 1851 gold was found.  The Dutch first landed in 1606.
