3. Dr. Skaggs (first on left) received his Ph.D. in Physics from the U of C in 1939.

6. Construction of the ACRH was completed in 1953. It was funded by an act of Congress following World War II for the medical uses of atomic particles.

7. The 2000 Ci Co-60 therapy unit designed by Drs. Skaggs and Lanzl was the first isocentric Cobalt machine in the US. Dr. Lanzl is seen with an isodose plotting machine.

8. The Van de Graaff produced 2 MeV x-rays that could be aimed at any angle. Here a patient is shown receiving radiation with a horizontal beam as seen through the lead glass observation window.
