1 A GOOD SERVANT OF JESUS CHRIST Text: I Timothy 4:6-16 Intro: We are already in the stage of Christian life where we learn to serve Him, it is now a question of “Are we a good servant”. Aim: For us to be a good servant and to be one those whom He will say “Well done, good and faithful servant” Matthew 25:21 I.If we are nourished in the words of faith and of the doctrine-v 6 A. How much are we equipped with the Word of God? B. We spent a good amount of time with something else, how much time do we spent for His word? C. We know lots of things like gadgets, events/news, people, books, etc. how much do we know about His Word?

2 D. We are getting familiar to songs even those we don’t really listen if we repeatedly hear them, how about the Word of God? II. If we carefully follow His word-v 6 A. We used to have superstitions and follow them believing it would do good. How much more with His Word? B. To love the Lord is to obey/follow His word-John 14:21 C. We pay attention to what our employer say to us and follow them, as a servant of God its should be much better. III. If we instruct the brethren in these things-v 6 A. We love to instruct people or kids with other things, we should also love to instruct our brethren with His word. B. The problem in instructing is when you don’t know it yourself. C. Instructing requires higher knowledge and experience.

3 IV. If we exercise godliness-v 8 A. Reject profane and old wives’ fables-v 8 Profane-disrespect religion/blasphemous Fables-short stories about behaviour, often with animals as characters. B. Godliness is profitable for all things. C. We exercise godliness because there a promise hereafter-Proverbs 23:17-18 Do not let your heart envy sinners, But be zealous for the fear of the LORD all the day; For surely there is a hereafter, And your hope will not be cut off. D. If we exercise godliness, we should be more godly as we grow older. E. We labour and suffer reproach-v 10

4 V. If we trust in the living God-v 10 VI. If we command and teach His word-v 11 VII. If we let no one despise us but be a good example in: A. Word- v 12 B. Conduct C. Love D. Spirit E. Faith F. Purity VIII. If we give attention to: A. Reading-v 13 B. Exhortation C. To doctrine IX. If we don’t neglect our gift-v 14 A. Each one of us has a gift-I Pet 4:10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

The purpose of gifts:-Ephesians 4:11-12 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; Eph 4:12For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ Eph 4:12 X. If we meditate on these things-v 15 XI. If we give ourselves entirely to those things-v 15 XII. If our progress is evident to all-v 15 XIII. If we take heed to ourselves and to the doctrine-v 16 XIV. If we continue in them-v 16 XV. If we aim to save ourselves and those who hear us-v 16 Challenge: Are we good? Will He say to us “Well done, good and faithful servant”?

6 Conclusion: Matthew 25:21 His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant, you were faithful over few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of our Lord.
