2 Timescale Today: end of Week 8 Demo & Presentation: Week 11 or 12 (NB, Easter Monday Week 12) Propose to teach next Week 9 (Mon: Declan, Thurs: Andy) and Week 10 (Mon: AW), then no more teaching to allow for more project development time Should also keep one lecture slot free for exam preparation …

3 Presentation 14 students Self-divide into groups: min. 2-3 per group, max. 5 per group Probably allows for 4 groups Need 1 hour to assess each group – depends on your other commitments – easy to book a room and schedule this from our point of view …

4 MT System Assessment Max. 5-10 min. introduction (using slidedeck) by max. 2 persons from group Max. 5 min presentation by each member of group on their own contribution Max. 10-15 min. ‘Research’ Findings & Conclusions, inc. “demo” of system (clearly training, tuning, evaluation will not be live; screendumps may help) Max. 10-15 min. Q&A: Andy, Declan, Sandipan, Walid, and maybe one other

5 Contents of System & Presentation Data Collection, Pre-processing, Training- Dev-Test splits etc Word & Phrase Alignment, Reordering etc Language Model Building MERT Tuning Decoding Evaluation: Human/Automatic

6 What Next? 1-pager containing Basics: –Team members –Basic idea –Data sets –Workpackages Approved by either Andy, Declan, Walid, Sandipan by end Week 9 (Fri 8 th April) Decide on Assessment Day by end Week 9 Andy to book room early Week 10 & decide on schedule Week 11/12: Assessment proper!
