Fashion In Germany Fashion hasn’t always been what people think of when they think of Germany. The top-left image is models on the runway showing a more sheik style than what most people wear, but it represents what modern German style has become. The image to the top-right is the logo to the Bread and Butter fashion show which is taking place in Berlin in 2007. Florian Mr. Jacob Smith

What did Germans used to wear? German workers in the sixteenth century wore mostly grey, and brown colors, but where aloud to wear blue clothing for Sundays, and holidays. In many places including Germany the color of clothes showed ones social status. The dirndl (right), and the lederhosen are the clothes most associated with Germany, because of they have been worn for generations, and they are worn in many German celebrations

The Fashion O f Young Germany Today The fashion of young Germany resembles the fashion of many other places in today. Young German fashion is very stylish and modern look. German high fashion is said to be vary similar to Italian in design. Two of the designers of teen clothes in Germany is Cashew (bottom left & right), and magnet (mid left)

The fashion of business Germany Like the fashion of the young; the business style is also similar that of what we see in our own country. Rene Lezard (left & right) is an international retailer of fine business apparel. Founded in 1978 by Thomas Schaefer, the products range includes perfume, shoes, suits, etc…

Little To No military clothing? Something not many travel guides may mention is the fact that wearing military clothing is not looked upon as good taste, it is considered to be insulting actually. Why? Because it is a symbol of German patriotism. the the same patriotism that Hitler used to campaign with, and the same patriotism brought shame to the spirit of Germans with the holocaust. To This day still it brings nothing to be proud of to the Germans; and though it is becoming less and less of an issue, the Nazi political party still campaigns with the idea of German patriotism. If you are not actively serving it is suggested to just not wear military clothing

Lederhosen & Dirndl The lederhosen translated literally is leather pants, the dirndl is just dirndl, though dirndlegewand translates to maid's dress. Though the pictures up top are newer they are still are made with incredible quality, the also serve the same purpose of being worn for special events and celebrations. they are also fairly expensive the the Dirndl (Bad Bachau, right) is $199.00, and the lederhosen (Kraneburg, left) is $349.00! In the past the lederhosen was worn not only by German speaking people, but most of Europe too. The dirndl is loosely based on the Trachien from Bavaria. It is more of simplified version, an in the 19th century was worn by Austrian servants in plane colors; it was adopted by the Austrian upper class as good fashion.

Additional Fashion Information 1.German clothes are made to be more sturdy than American clothing; one of the reasons why is that German washing machines are more rough than regular washers. 2.For the above reason German clothing costs a little more than American clothing. 3.If you don’t want to spend too much on clothing you could always shop at chain retailers such as H&M (bottom mid) Kaufhof (Bottom left), and/or Karstadt (Bottom right). 4.German people almost never wear shorts, they are considered sports wear. 5.As the pictures show very bright colors with the exception of orange are not often worn. 6.Having too much jewelry or make up and is not considered fashionable in many regions of Germany, but not everywhere 7.Not many people own a dirndl or lederhosen because of its high price, and it s not traditional in all regions of Germany.

Fashion shows The BBB (Bread & Butter Berlin) is a international trade show that show off high fashion, urban wear, denim clothing, and sports collections. CPD is held twice a year, and the collections designers show there are usually in stores 6 months later. While Paris & Milan are recognized as the leaders in European fashion, Germany’s own Düsseldorf is the clothing hub of European world. CPD is less of a fashion show though, and more of a place for designers to make business deals.
