DHI.System & GIS in MZ Routine health & semi- permanent data on a GISmap
2
GIS for Health: The relevance Data communication. Maps display existing data in a format which is easly comprehensible to decision makers, health practitioners, laypersons, and the media alike Data analysis. Calculating the population in a radius around a health unit can only be done using GIS and the results of statistical analyses can be displayed in a map format Decision support. The ability of displaying both HIS indicators and the results of data analyses make GIS useful tool for decision support: Maps easily reveal inequitis in the allocation of resources, the performance of health services, and health outcomes Links to other sectors. Maps are a generic platform for displaying information from all sectors: Oportunity to share data from different sectors and foster exchange and communication In developing countries maps are often outdated, omitting new villages, roads, health units, or are simply incorrect situating villages wrongly.
