7 FY 2015 Available TA Funding Summer 2015 total allocation: $175,000 Intent: Fund multiple grants Grant Period: June 1, 2015 – August 31, 2015

8 Summer Care Enhancement Grants Awarded to build capacity through NEW activities that will further develop an agency’s ability to make program improvements, prevent summer reading loss, and enrich quality summer opportunities for underserved children ages 5-16.

9 Eligibility Not-For-Profit organizations legally operating in the state of Florida Serving children and families in Hillsborough County Overall agency budget of $2M or less Must have an existing plan to provide summer care Capacity to collect data

11 Important Dates – Timeline Section 1.2 Application Due Date: 4:00 PM on May 11, 2015 Hard copy submission only Deadline for Questions: 4:00 PM on April 29, 2015 Answers Posted: April 30, 2015 Notice of Awards: Week of May 25,2015

12 Things to Remember $500 up to a maximum of $7,500 will be considered per agency. One-time, time limited grants. June 11, 2015 – Mandatory training for awarded organizations. Cost Reimbursement – Section 1.3 Projects must be completed by 8/31/15. Final reimbursement & report due by 10/15/15.

13 Summer Care Enhancement Grants Focus Areas: Parent Involvement Literacy Science-Technology-Engineering-Math Safety Arts

14 Summer Care Enhancement Grants Expenditures MAY include: Grade-specific activity books; Educational materials; Activity supplies; Educational field trips (transport for youth only); T-Shirts (with CBHC logo/name); Contracting with specialized personnel.

15 Activities NOT eligible for funding –Salaries –Occupancy Costs –Grant Writers –Stipends for volunteers –Computers or technology upgrades –Scholarships or slots for children –Staff travel expenses

16 Application Format & Guidelines A complete Application must include the following: –Cover page –Concept Paper (3 page limit) –Required Attachment: Budget/Narrative (Attachment 1) –Required Attachment: Evidence of applicant’s 2015 summer program. –Required Attachment: List of Board of Directors

17 Application Format & Guidelines Typewritten with 12 pt font; 8½ x 11 paper and numbered pages; 1 inch margins; (1) electronic copy of CD ROM or USB Drive; (1) original with signature and (4) Identical copies.

18 Application Format & Guidelines Optional Attachments: Relevant documents such as quotes, consultant scopes of service, and/or resumes, if applicable

19 Application Cover Page The cover page should not be in narrative form. List responses for each bullet in section 2.1.

20 Concept Paper - 3-Page Limit Project Summary How will CBHC funds enhance your current program? Describe target population, geographic location of program and number of children served. (1 grant award may serve multiple sites) Describe summer partnerships.

21 Concept Paper continued Organizational Capacity Your mission statement Brief history in providing summer care Background and Experience of Senior Staff Fiscal and Administrative Infrastructure

22 Budget – Attachment 1 Budget Detail and Budget Narrative – Reflects what you need to provide new activities beyond what your program can currently offer.

23 Budget Detail and Narrative Two (2) columns: Column 1: funds you are requesting from CBHC for this project. Column 2: describes expenses, including calculations, what items will be purchased, and/or estimates that support your costs. Example: (1) reading specialist once a week for 4 hours ($20 per hour) for 8 weeks is 32 hours x $20 = $640.

24 Helpful Hints Read the Request for Application (Pro 2015-10) Review the Grant Rating Criteria Submit questions by 4:00p on 4/29/15 Review the questions and answers on our website on 4/30/15 after 4pm Answer questions clearly and concisely Concept and Budget tell the same story Costs: Are they reasonable? Start your application early and submit before the deadline!
