No reproduction or distribution without the prior written consent of McGraw-Hill Education. 5-15 Applying the FITT Principle  Frequency  ACSM recommends stretching exercises be performed a minimum of two or three days a week  Intensity and time (duration)  Slowly apply stretch to your muscles to point of slight tension or mild discomfort ▪ Hold the stretch for 10 to 30 seconds ▪ As tension subsides, stretch a bit farther ▪ Rest 30 to 60 seconds; do 2 to 4 repetitions
