Matrix Schemas for COREP & FINREP Templates VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9/10 May 2007 Michele Romanelli Banca d’Italia

VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9-10 May, 2007 2 1) Multidimensional templates: the gap between requirements and taxonomies 2) The matrix schema 3) Conclusions Agenda

VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9-10 May, 2007 3 1 – Multidimensional templates: the gap What business users ask for

VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9-10 May, 2007 4 What technical people see inside templates 1 – Multidimensional templates: the gap

VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9-10 May, 2007 5 What technical people deliver (1) 1 – Multidimensional templates: the gap

VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9-10 May, 2007 6 What technical people deliver (2) 1 – Multidimensional templates: the gap

VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9-10 May, 2007 7 Problems and solutions (1) identification of primary items (overloading of the domain-member arcRole) inheritance of hypercubes on primary items “targetRole” attribute “usable” attribute vs abstract items scope and goal of each “extended LinkRole” Main difficulties... 1 – Multidimensional templates: the gap

VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9-10 May, 2007 8 naming convention (on items and linkroles) prefix convention (on physical files) extra documentation Problems and solutions (2)... and their mitigation 1 – Multidimensional templates: the gap

VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9-10 May, 2007 9 An example of extra documentation 1 – Multidimensional templates: the gap

VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9-10 May, 2007 10 Current situation what business people ask for what technical people deliver what technical people say they’ve done How to guarantee consistency among requirements, taxonomy and documentation ? 1 – Multidimensional templates: the gap

VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9-10 May, 2007 11 The Matrix schema for the CR-SA template 2 – Matrix Schema Following Column: Dimensions used in the template 1 st Column: Primary items Each row describe the breakdown structure of a primary item Each cell contains a code that stands for the list of members allowed for the dimension in the primary item. A sheet for each section technical people identified on the template

VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9-10 May, 2007 12 Matrix schema for OPR Details template Matrix schema for CR-IRB template A couple of practical examples 2 – Matrix Schema

VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9-10 May, 2007 13 Could Matrix schemas improve communication between business people and technical people? Could Matrix schemas reduce the taxonomy debugging burden? Could Matrix schemas facilitate the understanding of COREP/FINREP taxonomies by supervised entities? Some questions 3 – Conclusions

VII CEBS-XBRL Workshop Munich, 9-10 May, 2007 14 If we feel that answers to previous questions are positive then… … on COREP & FINREP web sites we will make available a set of matrix schemas (one for each template). The good news is that matrix schemas are automatically generated from taxonomies by a reverse engineering process. So no inconsistency is expected between taxonomies and matrix schemas What’s next 3 – Conclusions
