Two-stage model for graduate education: students spend their first-year on campus studying various courses necessary for their degrees, then they pursue research projects for their dissertations at various CAS research institutes. Graduate University of CAS (GUCAS) is headquartered in Beijing and has 5 regional graduate training bases. (Shanghai, Wuhan, Lanzhou, Guangzhou, Chengdu) 11,476 enrolled in 2007 ( 6436 M. + 5040 PhD. ) GUCAS has over 30,000 students.

Focus on developing innovative services (such as Information Commons). Design IL classes embedded into the GUCAS curriculum, and IL training modules integrated into IC services and on-site services. Embed librarian assistance in research and learning by offering reference services and consultation.

Database Specialized curriculum Database-oriented Packing up the training sessions on resources or databases (search tips, tutorials, instructions, use-guides, etc.) Subject-oriented Organizing all kinds of information resources into specialized courses to support the special needs of individual institutes. Curriculum-oriented Pedagogically shaping the IL curriculum, including information- chain recognition, need identification, search strategy, process requirements, information ethics, etc.
