Wu Objectives : 1.ICARTT campaign summer 2004: Support flight planning: monitor any large deviations between the aircraft observations and our understanding of ozone and aerosol processes that may cause alteration of flight plans, Generate a set of preliminary findings 2. Support satellite validation: Used at JPL by Qinbin Li for first analysis of TES and MLS data 3.Comparison with in situ measurements: Used by Dan Jaffe’s group in University Washington 4.More?.... 2 Daily full chemistry simulations v6-02-03 : 2x2.5 horizontal resolution, 30 levels, global based on GEOS-4 1 st look met fields daily-updated biomass burning emissions for North America based on MODIS hotspots daily plane flight diagnostic (1 st included for ICARTT) 2-D “column” timeseries for tropospheric CO, O3, NO2, HCHO for 1 st look, direct comparison with satellites Runs semi-automated using perl scripts developed by Bob Yantosca GEOS-CHEM NRT full-chemistry simulations INTEX-NA Flight tracks 1/07-15/08 MODIS hotspots: assume 100ha/hotspot Emissions/ unit area (Yevich and Logan) Emissions (Molec/cm2/s) 60 % 40 % 3km 6km PBL Vertical distribution Fok-Yan Leung x Solène Turquety – GEOS-CHEM Meeting April 4, 2005
