2 University of Northern BC Board of Trustees:  The UNBC Pension Plan is managed by a Board of Trustees. The board is comprised of both University appointed and Member Trustees.

5 University of Northern BC Pension Plan Governance  The administration of the pension plan is vested wholly in the Trustees  Fund administration is supported by Sun Life  Independent investment advice is provided by Asset Performance Inc.  Assistance with compliance issues is provided by Watson Wyatt

6 University of Northern BC Investment/Administration Fees  Investment management, custodial and member record keeping fees are set by fund managers and Sun Life  Administration fees are used to offset any expenses related to compliance with pension legislation, implementation of any changes in pension governance, independent advise, revision of existing pension documents, etc., and are set by the Trustees.

7 University of Northern BC Investment/Administration Fees  The Trustees have renegotiated a new contract with Sun Life. Effective October 1, 2006, the $2/month member fee was removed and the laddered fund manager fee was change to a flat fee.  Upon review of the 2007 annual budget the Trustees approved the reduction of the $7/month admin fee to $5.50/month effective January 1, 2007.

8 University of Northern BC Contribution Calculation Change  Previously contribution percentages were processed based on annual salary – so 3 & 8% till YMPE reached then 5 & 10% for remainder (YMPE for 2007 is $43,700)  As of January 1, 2007, changed to bi-weekly salary to be more in-line with Pension Plan language

9 University of Northern BC Initiatives completed in 2006  Maintain and monitor compliance with the Canadian Association of Pension Supervisory Authorities (CAPSA) Pension Plan Governance Guidelines (ongoing).  Review and finalization of the Plan Booklet.  Review and renegotiation the Sun Life Fee Structure and Service Agreement.  Provided opportunities for member education and workshops.

10 University of Northern BC Initiatives for 2007  Provide opportunities for member education and workshops.  Look at fund choices such as Milestone funds, which work in conjunction with projected retirement dates.  Review of current default fund (money market) for new hires  Review and revise as required the UNBC “Statement of Investment Policies”.

11 University of Northern BC Conclusion  The plan and its administrative processes are in compliance with all applicable legislation.  All filing deadlines have been met.
