2 Today’s Objective... To see how certain artists influenced Rock music. Students will understand music in relation to history and culture in the 1960s. Students will listen to, analyze, describe, and evaluate music from the 1960s.

3 The Beatles Members: John Lennon (1940-1980), Paul McCartney (1942-), George Harrison (1943-2001), and Ringo Starr- Richard Starkey (1940-) Influence on music: Known for rich, tight harmony Social commentary Introduced instruments such as the cello, trumpet, and sitar to pop music. Listening: Yesterday Ed Sullivan

4 Rolling Stones Members: Mick Jagger (1943-), Keith Richards (1943-), Bill Wyman (1941-), Brian Jones (1942-1969), and Charlie Watts (1942-) Influence on music: Formed the stereotype of a rock band Driving backbeat and biting lyrics Listening: Satisfaction Jumpin’ Jack Flash
