2 Single Site Summary  Start with a single channel in isolation  Operates in control mode until a call is made then converts to traffic mode  All users are valid  Control parameters defined via Field Programmer  Add traffic channels to increase capacity and:  Provide for call queuing and “real” trunking operation  Maximum number of channels per site is 24.

3 Single Site Continued  Add a System Control Interface to provide:  A record of each and every successful call  A log of all call statistics  Monitoring of system status (via SYSCON)  Subscriber control (via SYSCON)  A portal to the outside world  User-definable alarm inputs & control outputs  SCI portals provide:  Connection to SYSCON or RCP for multi-site  Connection to Local PCM switch.

4 Multi-Site Summary Connect SCIs to a Regional Control Processor  Up to 10 sites can be handled by an RCP  RCP provides the Call Diversion feature  RCP/PCM switch can interface to 24 PSTN lines …  … and 24 PABX lines on up to 8 different exchanges  Up to 16 MHDs can be handled by an RCP  RCP can connect to the Inter-Regional Processor to network up to 16 regions i.e. 160 sites  Up to 5 IRPs can be connected to yield 800 sites!

5 Local Telephone Interconnect Connect a PCM switch directly to an SCI  As many as 23 PSTN circuits can be accommodated  Can be used in single or multi-site systems  Calls may be routed to the local switch based upon digit length or inclusion table or regional line failure.  Feature designed to expand PSTN interface capacity …  … and avoid PSTN routing via regional node in countries where the PSTN infrastructure is unable to handle the regional routing e.g. Russia.

6 Local Telephone Interconnect Limitations  PABX not yet supported locally  In multi-site systems, each phone connection requires a port to the repeater channel AND the regional switch  This means that for each PSTN line 3 ports must be provided in the PCM switch  Calls made from radios may be routed to either the Local or Regional PSTN gateway but NOT a local gateway on another site  Group calls initiated from a Local Sw phone are forced local on the associated site.

7 Call Queuing “Real” System Queuing  Control channel may queue awaiting resources or …  … because the called party is busy  All permutations of call and associated conflicts are handled  Queuing may be controlled via SYSCON / Control Parameters page

8 Speech Call Types  Normal, High, and Emergency Priority calls supported  Priority levels may be multiplied in conjunction with the channel segregation feature  Emergency Pre-emption selectable via SYSCON (terminates non-emergency calls where resources are unavailable or the called party is busy)  Emergency Sweep selectable via SYSCON (sweeps all channels to “pluck-out” participants that would not be caught in standard conflict checks).  Separate call timers can be applied to emergency calls.

9 Non-Prescribed Data Calls  Enjoy all of the features of Speech Calls  NPD calls use traffic channels and therefore almost any length of call be accommodated  NPD calls may use any format and modulation compatible with the repeaters in use  Separate call timers can be applied to NPD calls.

10 Call with Phones  Calls to and from the PSTN:  Outbound calls enjoy complex routing options  Separate timers can be applied to PSTN calls  Up to 24 lines may be connected at the regional node  And up to 23 lines at each and every site  Calls to and from a PABX:  Outbound calls enjoy complex routing options to as many as 8 different exchanges  Separate call timers can be applied to PABX calls  Maximum 24 lines connectable at regional node.

11 Call with Phones Continued  Radio to Phone calls:  Can be of any priority selected by radio at call time  Calls are billed to originating radio  Maximum number of PSTN digits is 14  Phone to Radio calls:  Optionally billed to CALLED radio  Priority must be pre-selected via RCP configuration  Maximum 24 lines connectable at regional node  DID conversion table for 1000 PSTN numbers.

12 Short Data Calls – Type I  Also known as STATUS calls:  5 bits of user data – 30 user-definable messages  Very fast and efficient  May only be sent radio to radio and radio with MHD  Status calls to groups are NOT possible with MPT1327  Status calls with phones are not implemented by Fylde  There is only one priority of SDM I.

13 Short Data Calls – Type II  Also known as SDM calls:  184 bits of user data – or 25 ASCII characters  Fast and reliable  Most common use is Vehicle Location Data  SDMs to groups are supported single site only  SDMs with phones are NOT supported  EDMs (4 concatenated SDMs) are not yet supported  There is only one priority of SDM II.

14 Call Diversion  Call Diversion store located within RCP  Split divert is not supported by Fylde  Diversion time-out selectable via SYSCON between 1 and 255 hours (over 10 days).  The system does NOT provide automatic recall to diversion address, but most radio units provide this feature as a selectable option.

15 Single Site Group Calls  Individual control of radios and groups is achieved via SYSCON / Agreements / Subscribers & Groups pages  Single site groups take just 213mS to mature  Single site groups can be allowed on more than one site by setting Coverage = “All” and Intersite unchecked in the required Group page  To allow users to roam to other sites and call into a single site group set Group Coverage = sitename, Group intersite box unchecked, then set Call Home mode for individuals who are to roam.

16 Multi-Site Group Calls  Select coverage as required in Group page  Ensure intersite box is checked  For individual subscribers, check that wide-area groups are selected in the group control list box.  There are limitations on the number of simultaneous multi-site group calls:  2 site calls – limited only by number of channels/lines  3 - 7 site calls – maximum is 16  > 7 site calls – maximum is 2  All sites in the group call are recorded, so a 5 site call will generate 5 billing records.

17 Multi-Site Group Calls (2)  Multi-site groups can be originated by PSTN or PABX by dialling full MPT1343 group string  MHDs can originate multi-site group calls  Phones nor MHDs can be a slave to a multi-site group call.

18 Automatic Group Roaming  Non-Roaming:  Calls are constrained only by Group Coverage  Auto-Roaming – Selection by Identity Range:  Enter the lowest and highest identity to be considered as part of this group  Sites must see at least one member registered before the site will open up as part of the group call  Calls are ultimately constrained by Group Coverage  There is NO limit on the number of Range Selected Auto-Groups within an agreement.

19 Automatic Group Roaming (2)  Auto-Roaming – Selection by Specific Identity:  Select identities at random from the list box  Sites must open up only if one of the selected identities is registered on that site  Calls are ultimately constrained by Group Coverage  Use this auto-roaming selection method where group members’ individual identities are NOT contiguous  There is a limit of 4 Ident Specific Auto-Groups within a single agreement.

20 Inter-Regional Operation  IR gateway is provided on RCP  Up to 24 speech circuits can be tied to each region  An IRP can support 16 RCP connections  Five IRPs can be networked via TCP/IP  All types of call are supported through IRP  Inter-regional groups must be specifically enabled  Home PABX routing facility is provided within IRP  Speech circuits can connect region to region to directly in some cases and so save the need for an IRP switch.

21 Inter-Regional Operation (2)  All non-local calls are passed to IRP for consideration  Therefore the IR-links must be of high quality  IR call set-up times are increased by less than 200mS  IRP has built-in diagnostics and logging facilities  IRP has no mission-critical moving parts  Dual-boot from hard-drive, then floppy  Registration database held on silicon disk (flash/RAM)  Loss of IRP affects only IR calls.

22 Other features  CWID – not required in where whole band is dedicated to trunked operation  Fast Carrier Sampling – offers some co-channel protection  Vote Now Advice.
