4. ONE UNIVERSITY, TWO CAMPUSES Established in 1969 Two campuses on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River: one in Rimouski, the other in Lévis. Average class size of 30 In addition to its campuses in Rimouski and Lévis, UQAR has offices in Gaspé and Rivière-du-Loup. It also works closely with the Centre universitaire du secteur ouest de la Côte- Nord and the Centre d’études universitaires des Appalaches. UQAR is part of Université du Québec, the biggest university network in Canada with over 94,000 students.

5. ONE UNIVERSITY, TWO CAMPUSES UQAR welcomes some 7,000 students every year, more than 400 of whom are international students from over 35 countries. 13. A HANDS-ON APPROACH TO LEARNING On both campuses, UQAR professors, lecturers and support staff provide students with an exceptional learning environment. Smaller class sizes mean that new students can more easily adjust to university life and succeed in their studies. Many undergraduate degrees include hands-on fieldwork and internships. Graduate programs stand out for their multidisciplinary approach and their links to institutional research programs and to tangible local, national and international issues.

THE RESEARCH, ANOTHER WAY TO INNOVATE The physiographic features of Eastern Quebec have put a distinctive stamp on the university’s research programs and helped define the three main multidisciplinary areas of research around which UQAR has made a name for itself: marine sciences, regional development and nordicity. In recent years, UQAR has expanded its research activities and developed recognized expertise in fields like enginee- ring, heritage, health, education and management sciences. NORDICTY This area of research brings together professors, researchers, professional and students with a multidisciplinary interest in northern environments around number of highly complementary disciplines including the biology, ecology, chemistry, and geography (both human and physical) of cold environments. Programs in biology, wildlife management, geography, as well as environmental and bioresource chemistry strive to train highly skilled professionals in the analysis and management of northern ecosystems and geosystems.

29. STUDENT LIFE WITH A WORLD VIEW UQAR has signed over 50 agreements with 24 countries around the world, particularly in Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia. More than 400 international students from over 35 different countries attend UQAR. To help new international students on both campuses adjust socially and succeed academically, student services at UQAR offer a program where new students are paired up with current students in their first few weeks on campus.
