The Great Western Railway And SS Great Western By Mathew Randall

Introduction This presentation is about the Great Western Railway and SS Great Western, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

The Great Western Railway was invented by Isambard kingdom Brunel. Brunel was at a meeting about the great western railway in London. Brunel said why not make it longer, and have a steamboat from Bristol to New York, and call it the Great Western. This fantastic idea would have allowed people to travel by train from London to Bristol and travel from Bristol to New York on the SS Great Western.

The reason Brunel had the idea of the Great Western Railway was no way of getting from London to Bristol. So he thought that the fastest way was by train. He also thought that this would bring more money in. And have an affect on the amount of holiday makers.

The reason for SS Great Western was because there was no way from Bristol to New York. So he thought that he would link the Great Western Railway with the SS Great Western.

The broad gauge track was very costly at £56,300 per mile. The broad gauge was very rare and had never been used in such a big project before. They specially designed a steam locomotive.

The End Thank you for watching
