2  Frank McCourt was born on August 19, 1930 New York.  The family frequently struggled to make ends meet.  McCourt left school at 13 to earn money for his family.  He also saved some for his own dream: To return to America.

3  McCourt left Ireland at the age of 19, returning to the United States for work.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army.  New York University - He graduated with a bachelor's degree in education.  He taught English at McKee High School and Stuyvesant High School in New York City.  He retired after 30 years in education.

5  This book is encompassing 36 years.  He dreams of a better life in America and, at the age of 19, sails on the Irish Oak to a land of promise and wealth. (New York)  Things change a bit for Frank when he enters the Army during the Korean War.  After the war Frank returns to New York, and stars to work as a docworker, than he decides he wants to attend the university.

6  He is able to earn his teaching degree. Getting a job in a school.  Marrying his love Alberta, becoming a father.  Living in the american dream.  His mother arrives in New York, and died there.

7  Frank realizes that he is unable to continue this life. – He divorced.  McCourt continues teaching.  The novel ends in 1985. Frank has returned to Ireland to bury his father and his mother.

9 “I told her tea bags were just a convenience for people with busy lives and she said no one is so busy they can't take time to make a decent cup of tea and if you are that busy you don't deserve a decent cup of tea for what is it all about anyway? Are we put into this world to be busy or to chat over a nice cup of tea?”

10 “He thinks a woman is just like a spider, the black widow, which kills the male after having sex, bites off his miserable head. Women don’t care about men, as soon as they get over the birth capibilty. Men are so unnecessery for them, unless they jump on a horse to attack an another tribe.”

11 “But I don't know how I'll ever get a college degree and rise in the world with no high school diploma and eyes like piss holes in the snow, as everyone tells me.”
