Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. 2 doc.: IEEE 802.22-07-0103-00-0000 Submission March 2007 Cheng Shan, Samsung ElectronicsSlide 2 Abstract This presentation reviews the scenarios when jointly controlling the transmit EIRP cap of multiple WRAN devices; a method is proposed so that the aggregated interference would not exceeding the D/U ratios at the noise protected contour of TV stations. This presentation is intented as an overview of the proposed normative text submitted in contribution 22- 07-0016-00-0000_Proposed_text_changes_to_22-06- 0259-00-0000_v0.1_AnnexB2 associated with comment #138. This item was identified as “green, urgent”.

doc.: IEEE 802.22-07-0103-00-0000 Submission March 2007 Cheng Shan, Samsung ElectronicsSlide 3 Operational Scenario When multiple WRAN devices (CPEs/BSs) transmit simultaneously, the interferences thus induced at the TV protected contour aggregate The transmit power of WRAN devices must be jointly controlled to protect the incumbent users

doc.: IEEE 802.22-07-0103-00-0000 Submission March 2007 Cheng Shan, Samsung ElectronicsSlide 4 Joint TPC for CPE: Scenario Simultaneous CPE transmissions could occur in the following scenarios, where JTPC shall be applied: –Uplink sharing of the same TV channel but not the same subchannel –Uplink sharing of the same subchannel within the same TV channel –WRAN cells sharing the same TV channel but not the same subchannel (same WRAN or coexistence with another WRAN) –WRAN cells sharing the same subchannel within the same TV channel (same WRAN or coexistence with another WRAN) –Contention-based access to a WRAN base station. –Coexistence with other license-exempt users whose transmissions can be modelled as another CPE transmitting simultaneously with one or more CPEs of the WRAN.

doc.: IEEE 802.22-07-0103-00-0000 Submission March 2007 Cheng Shan, Samsung ElectronicsSlide 5 Joint TPC for CPE: Requirement There is no unique solution to define a CPE power control algorithm, which is a implementation issue A good power control algorithm shall satisfy both individual and joint transmit EIRP Cap A test module should be present after any resource allocation and power control algorithms and before actual transmission, to ensure there is no excessive interference induced at the protected contour of the incumbent TV system The maximum transmit EIRP of CPE shall be explicitly notified to each CPE by BS

doc.: IEEE 802.22-07-0103-00-0000 Submission March 2007 Cheng Shan, Samsung ElectronicsSlide 6 Joint TPC for CPE: Procedure BS decides if joint TPC test module shall be activated –multiple CPEs are scheduled to transmit simultaneously within channel N, –and these CPEs are within a certain constrained area BS calculates the induced joint interference at TV channel N as well as its adjacent ones N±1, by summing up the interferences from each individual CPE in concern, which is based on –Transmitting power of the CPE –Geolocation information of the CPE and the incumbent protected contour –Propagation channel model from CPE to the protected contour If the joint interference violates the D/U ratio requirement at the protected contour, all the transmit powers of those CPEs in concern shall be reduced by a predefined amount until the D/U ratio is satisfied

doc.: IEEE 802.22-07-0103-00-0000 Submission March 2007 Cheng Shan, Samsung ElectronicsSlide 7 Joint TPC for BS Similar to the joint TPC of CPE, when multiple BSs are operating in a same channel N, the WRAN system shall guarantee the joint interference induced at the incumbent protected contour meet the D/U ratio requirement at channel N as well as its adjacent channels
