2 BACKGROUND The donor detection is the first step in the Deceased Donation Process. Improving the detection could be possible increase the total number of actual donor. The donor detection is a KEY point in the process of Organ Donation for transplantation

3 BACKGROUND An analysis of data in A Pulia region and Lebanon shows that there is a considerable number of patients who being in brain death, are not marked. For this purpose, the two regions started DAS (Donor Alert System), a new monitoring and reporting system about cardiac and brain death

4 OBJECTIVE Early detection of all possible organ and tissue donors

5 PROCEDURE Triggers ICU cardiac death within the first hour after diagnosis ICU admission of a patient with criteria of Severe Neurological Damage (SND) within first hour after admission ICU patient that has developed criteria of Severe Neurological Damage (SND) within the first hour of criteria fulfilling

7 RESULTS In Apulia region Started January 2009 in 21 ICU 4.890 Alerts were received during the first 3 years. The Brain death diagnosed increase in 38,2% (82 Vs.113) 43 alerts per month 4.4 donors per month Vs. 2.2 donors in 2008

8 RESULTS In Lebanon Started November 2009 in 23 ICU 1.469 Alerts were received during the first year. Total = 750

10 CONCLUSION Further increase in the use of DAS could reduce the “escapes” of patients who are in brain death and increase the donors.
