4 China  Civilization emerged about 3000 B.C.  Largest Country in Asia  China is almost as large as all of Europe!

5 China’s Geography  Diverse!!  Rivers flow towards the Ocean  Huang River Valley = Nile River V. How?

6 China  Loess- yellow-ish soil that comes from the desert.  Terraces- platforms of earth that look like stairs.

7 Beijing  Capital of China  About 12 million people live there!  Located in the North China Plain  Center of culture and government

9 Agriculture  Lower China has a long growing season. What does this mean?  Double cropping- Two crops are grown on the same land in the same year.  People can rely on farming and fishing.

11 Tibetan Plateau  “Roof of the World”  Very rocky, surrounded by mountain ranges.  Himalayas – tallest peak on Earth.

12 Tibet  Minority group in China  Don’t speak Chinese  Nomads- Travel and live in tents alongside their livestock.
