2 credentials  Definition: Evidence of authority  Sample Sentence: A reporter who covers at the white house has to have proper credentials to enter the press room there.

3 oppressive  Definition: brutal, discouraging  Sample Sentence: Sometimes the weather the narrator describes seems oppressive, like a weight bearing down on the characters.

4 genial  Definition: warm and pleasantly cheerful  Sample Sentence: Reporters have to decide how best to approach the people they want to interview. Should they be genial and friendly, or should they be tough and aggressive?

5 hoax  Definition: intended to deceive  Sample Sentence: The reporters lost his job because he printed a hoax on the front page.

6 morbid  Definition: gruesome, abnormal deadly  Sample Sentence: Sometimes the reporter'sjob requires him or her to witness gruesome and morbid things.

7 gaudy  Definition: showy, cheap, flashy  Sample Sentence: To some, the neon lights of Broadway may seem flashy, or gaudy, but to a struggling young actor they are beautiful.

8 jovial  Definition: full of playful, good humor  Sample Sentence: They may be surprised to discover that the sad character may be nothing like the jovial actor he is offstage.

9 pungent  Definition: sharply affecting the sense of taste or smell.  Sample Sentence: Their dishes always carry the pungent smell of cooked chili peppers.
