2 Brief overview 0 Anorexia nervosa- what is it? 0 Mental disorder 0 Fear of gaining weight 0 Mostly seen in adolescents (14 years old) 0 More frequent in women- 0 amenorrhea (endocrine disorder) 0 Lower activation in certain brain areas helps to maintain fasting

3 Introduction 0 Objective: to test the different effects of visual stimuli of food on healthy and anorexic people. 0 BUT- making a distinction between: 0 A Hungry state 0 A Satiated state

4 Hypothesis 0 In anorexic patients- weaker activation in: 0 Inferior parietal lobe (IPL) 0 Occipital cortex 0 Higher activation in: 0 Medial prefrontal cortex

5 Experimental Task 0 20 practice trials 0 8 am- 2 sessions (30 min) 0 8 consecutive blocks 10 stimuli (colored pictures) 0 food (320) 0 non food (320) Is the picture A) Pleasant B) Neutral C) unpleasant

6 Results 0 Are you hungry? 0 Higher response when hungry (both). 0 Anorexics had a lower report overall. 0 Anorexic- less pleased by food stimuli. 0 Fmri- 0 Anorexics (satiated)- lower activation on IPL 0 (-) correlation with stornger dietary restrain. 0 (+) correlation with weaker disinihbition of eating and low BMI. 0 Anorexic (hungry)- decreased activation of occipital cortex.
