All Rights Reserved4 C H A P T E R 7 How to Subscribe to a Listserv  First, many listservs have a Web page where you sign up by filling out a form that prompts you for your name and e-mail address.  The second way to join a listserv is to send its host computer an e-mail message saying that you want to subscribe. There are two ways to subscribe to a listserv:

All Rights Reserved7 C H A P T E R 7 Receiving Listserv Messages: Remember to Lurk!  The messages sent by the listserv appear automatically in your e-mail in-box, where you read them like any other e-mail message. This message came from the NesScan listserv The From field indicates that the message came from a listserv.

All Rights Reserved9 C H A P T E R 7 Sending a New Message to a Listserv  When you join a listserv, you will be told how to address new messages that you want to send to the listserv.  Since listserv addresses can be technical and hard to remember, it’s a good idea to enter this address in your e-mail client’s Address Book,

All Rights Reserved13 C H A P T E R 7 How to Unsubscribe from a Listserv  To unsubscribe, follow the steps in the message you got from the listserv.  Many listservs write unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of every message, so you can always find out how to unsubscribe.

All Rights Reserved15 C H A P T E R 7 Listserv Command Summary  SUBSCRIBE listname full_name - Subscribes you to the list, or changes the name under which you were previously subscribed; replace full_name with your name.  SUBSCRIBE listname ANONYMOUS - Subscribes you to the list anonymously, if the listserv allows that for this list.  REVIEW listname - Get information about a list, including who owns it and who belongs to it.

All Rights Reserved16 C H A P T E R 7 Listserv Command Summary  SET NOMAIL - Make the listserv stop sending you messages (to resume, send the command SET MAIL).  RELEASE - Find out information about the listserv software being used to run this listserv, and who maintains the server.  SIGNOFF listname - Unsubscribes you from the list.  SET listname CONCEAL - Hide yourself from REVIEW.

All Rights Reserved17 C H A P T E R 7 Listserv Command Summary  SET listname NOCONCEAL - Let yourself be listed by REVIEW.  SHOW STATS - Show statistics about the listserv.  SEARCH listname keyword1 - Search the listserv archives; for more search options, send the LISTSERV REFCARD command.  QUERY listname - Queries your set of options on the listserv; use SET to change them.
