Introduc tion Introduc tion LESSO N LESSO N QUIZ END Addition is a mathematical operation off adding; especially the process of computing with sets of numbers so as to find their sum. It is signified by the plus sign (+). Patterns of Additional : 1 + 1 = 2 Addend Sum

Repeated addition of 1 is the same a counting; addition of 0 does not change a number. 1+1=2, 2+1=3…..1+0=1, 2+0=2 The plus sign Addition is written by using the plus sign “+” between the terms; that is, in infix notation. The result is expressed with an equals sign.

EXAMPLE: IF YOU ADD 2 AND 3 YOU GET 5. YOU WOULD WRITE IT LIKE THIS: 2 + 3 = 5 ADDITION Here 1 ball is added to 1 ball to make 2 balls: Using Numbers it is: 1 + 1 = 2 And in words it is: "One plus one equals two"

You can do addition by writing one number below the other and then add one column at a time, like this: 2 3 + 6 3+6= 9 2+0= 2 23 + 6 = 29

Did you see how we split the 12 into 1 Ten and 2 Units? We then sent the 1 Ten to the top of the Tens column, so we will remember to add it when we do the Tens. And there is a nice clear space for the Tens answer below.
