3 2. exasperation  Irritation  When we continued to talk, the teacher’s exasperation showed.   They had all experienced the exasperation and frustration of holiday shopping.

4 3. condescending   patronizing, to assume an air of superiority   Wealthy people tend to be condescending toward others.

5 4. fallacy   deceptive appearance, a false or mistaken idea   The fallacy of their ideas about medicine soon became apparent.

6 5. diligent  hardworking   The desires of diligent workers are satisfied.

7 6. scrutinize  to observe carefully   I closely scrutinized my opponent's every move.   Her performance was carefully scrutinized by her employer.

8 7. mundane  ordinary, common   They lead a pretty mundane life.

9 8. elicit  to get a response from someone   She's been trying to elicit the support of other committee members.   My question elicited no response.

10 9. inane  Foolish, silly, lacking significance  I got nervous and made such inane comments that I later felt completely stupid.
