Shape of Distributions: Skew The skew of a (frequency) distribution tells us something about the shape of the distribution. Normal (bell-shaped) distributions are not skewed (have zero skew); symmetrical. Positive skew: tail in the direction of high scores. Negative skew: tail in the direction of low scores.
