Tú Tú is informal / friendly It is used to refer to: 1. friends 2. peers 3. familiar people You use this if you refer to the person by their first name.
Usted Usted is formal / polite It is used to refer to: 1. people older than you 2. superiors 3. people with whom you do business 4. strangers You use this if you refer to the person by using a title and their last name.
