All day I hear the Noise of Waters All day I hear the noise of waters Making moan, Sad as the sea-bird is when, going Forth alone, He hears the winds cry to the waters monotone
The grey winds, the cold winds are blowing Where I go. I hear the noise of many waters Far below. All day, all night, I hear them flowing To and fro James Joyce
Images A sea-bird is flying over the sea. It is alone, it hears the noise of the blowing wind and the noise of water. The poet is like the sea-bird: he is sad and alone, he hears the cold wind which seems to cry. He hears the rhythmic flowing of the waters that sounds like the clock beating the time.
