2 Bloom-Vernon Schools OHIO TIF COLLABORATION  Collaborative effort among 24 Ohio districts, the Ohio Department of Education, and Battelle for Kids  Five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education

3 Bloom-Vernon Schools OHIO TIF GOALS  All students graduate from high school college- and career-ready  Achieve nation’s highest college attendance and completion rates  Eliminate achievement gaps among under- represented student groups [insert district photo]

4 Bloom-Vernon Schools Bloom-Vernon Goals Through Ohio TIF  Through Ohio TIF, Bloom-Vernon will:  Define what it means to be an effective educator  Enlarge the use of formative instructional practices to maximize student learning  Enhance evaluation systems for principals and teachers  Design award programs that recognize educators for contributions to student learning

5 Bloom-Vernon Schools Award Model Development  Collaborative process with our Strategic Compensation Team made up of 7 teachers and the TIF Coordinator  Year 1 award model implemented in 2011- 2012 school year

6 Bloom-Vernon Schools The Bloom-Vernon Award Model  Our Model is based on what we value, believe and want to promote: 1. We believe everyone contributes to student learning. 2. We believe the teacher is the most important variable in student learning. 3. We expect teachers and students to perform at high levels. 4. We value and want to foster collaboration. 5. We want to promote teacher reflection and professional growth. 6. We want to protect our culture of “Doing what’s best for kids.”

7 Bloom-Vernon Schools The Bloom-Vernon Award Model  4 Components of award model 1. Building Achievement 2. Building Growth 3. Team Growth 4. Individual Growth

8 Bloom-Vernon Schools Component 1: Building Achievement  Goal: Collaboration and high student achievement  Building Performance Index of 100 or higher to earn award  Potential Award: $1000.00 for each eligible building staff member

9 Bloom-Vernon Schools Component 2: Building Growth  Goal: Collaboration and high student growth  85% or more of the building teacher level value added reports at Average, Above Average, or Most Effective  Potential Award: $1000.00 for each eligible building staff member

10 Bloom-Vernon Schools Component 3: Team Growth  Goal: Grade level and subject area collaboration and high student growth  All team member’s teacher level value added reports at Average, Above Average, Most Effective  Potential Award: $1000.00 for each eligible team member

11 Bloom-Vernon Schools Component 4: Individual Growth  Goal: Reward individual teachers for high student growth  Teacher level value added report at Most Effective  Potential Award: $1000.00

12 Bloom-Vernon Schools Eligibility  All building teachers, principal, assistant principal, guidance counselor, nurse eligible unless opt out.  To be eligible, certificated staff must be employed under contract by the Bloom-Vernon Schools by October 1 of the current school year and remain employed with the district through the end of the school year. Part-time contracted certificated staff are eligible for awards on a pro-rated basis.

13 Bloom-Vernon Schools Classified Staff Classified staff added as part of Bloom-Vernon’s Strategic Compensation Plan Based on Building Achievement Goal Consistent with our belief that everyone contributes to student learning.

14 Bloom-Vernon Schools Data Data being collected during 2011-2012 school year Linkage process in the spring Will use BFK*Award to report Payouts for Year 1 will be made in late 2012 or early 2013

15 Bloom-Vernon Schools Year 2 Award Model Enhancement Award model will be enhanced for Year 2 of the grant Strategic Compensation Team meeting throughout 2011-2012 to consider possible enhancements
