1 Glynn Middle Cheerleading Tryout Information
Tryout Dates are. May2nd through May5th. Actual tryout date will be May 6th. Try to attend all practices. It is not mandatory to attend all practices but it will help you if you do.

2 Practice Week Each girl will be assigned a group
8th grade cheerleaders will teach the tryout material. The girls will practice Monday thru Wednesday. They will have a mock tryout on Thursday.

3 Parent pick up times Practices are over at 5:30.
Please arrange to be picked up on time. Cheerleaders that are repeatedly late from being picked up may be asked not to try out. On May 6th tryouts will begin immediately after school. Pick up times will vary according to your child's assigned number.

4 Tryout Apparel Appropriate tennis shoes.
Red, Black or White athletic shorts. Red or White t-shirt. No writing. No cheerleading logos. You can have trademark symbol such as Nike,Underarmor, Adidas, champion etc. You may wear a Glynn Middle T-shirt that is not affiliated/connected to a club or sport. Hair must be up and out of your face. You can wear a ribbon. No Jewelry is to be worn during tryouts. Clear nail polish only.

5 Tryout Observations No tryout observations will be permitted.
No practice observations will be permitted. Only Administrators, cheer coaches, PE coaches, and SRO’s will be permitted. Please do not enter the building and peek through the gym windows. You will be seen by the girls and they will tell me. Your child may not tryout if you violate the rule. Please be considerate to all girls trying out and fair. No electronic devices can be used during practice or tryouts.

6 Judges Three Judges are hired to judge tryouts.
The Judges are trained by the UCA (Universal Cheerleading Association). They are from out of town. Their identity is anonymous until the day of tryouts.

7 Tryout Judging Sheet The following categories will be judged:
Tumbling 2 possible points Appearance 5 possible points Spirit and Enthusiasm 5 possible points Group Chant 10 possible points Cheer Motion Technique 10 possible points Dance Technical Skills 10 possible points Dance Timing 5 possible points Crowd engagement 5 possible points Pitt (toe touch)10 possible points Side Herkie 10 possible points Front Herkie 10 possible points Voice Projection 10 possible points Overall Impression 10 possible points

8 Total Score Each Cheer Candidate will have an individual score for each of the following categories: Judge 1 (Total Possible points 102) Judge 2 (Total Possible points 102) Judge 3 (Total Possible points 102) GPA 3.0 or above (10 points) Teacher evaluations (90 possible points per teacher) Coach’s score (ongoing through tryout week) 10 points possible Discipline referrals (-20 per offense) Absent from cheer practice (-10 per day) Overall score will be the sum of the combined categories

9 Conferences If you do not make the squad this year. Try out again next year. Everyone does not make it each year. Keep a positive attitude and do not talk poorly about the girls that had higher scores. Any candidate wishing to receive their scores quickly should provide a stamped, self addressed envelope to the sponsor prior to the tryouts. Individual score sheets will be mailed no later than Tuesday following tryouts. The cutoff number will be provided along with cheerleading candidate’s individual rank number. I will be happy to meet with any girl that doesn’t make it in order to go over her judges scores. Teacher recommendations are confidential. However I will reveal the total cumulative score. I can tell her what areas need to be improved upon. Parents may request to see their own child’s score (no rank scores) from the Principal or his/her designee. By law, all other student scores are protected and cannot be shared with anyone except the coach, principal, or principal designee. Parents that would like to meet with me must make an appointment through the guidance office.

10 Forms All forms from the cheer packet must be completed and on file in order to tryout. Physicals must be current and on file in order to practice Monday. Forms: Make sure you have a current Physical Clearance form on file with the school nurse prior to trying out. The form must be completed on the official form obtained from the athletic office, located in the) or from the District website (click on departments then athletics then forms). Glynn County Athletic Consent form. Constitution Agreement. Financial Obligation Agreement form. Teacher Recommendations

11 Financial Obligations
This is covered in your packet. Camp will cost $ this year. This fee will be due 1 week after tryouts. Camp will be June 14th – 16th. From 9:00 to 4:00. It is mandatory each girl attend camp. If this is possible,then wait and tryout next year. No surprises please. If a cheerleader cannot attend camp then they will be benched from one game for each day of camp missed. A fitting is scheduled for after school. A female relative is encouraged to attend to help with sizing decisions. Sizing Date is May 12th at 3:45 at GMS. Attendance is Mandatory. It will be immediately after school in the gym. Each cheerleader will receive a itemized list soon after tryouts. Upon receiving this list payment is expected to be paid in full by the last day of school. Failure to make payment will result in the cheerleader being asked to give up her position on the squad and allowing an alternate to step up.

12 Cheer Schedule Practices are every Monday- 3:30 to 5:30.
Additional practices as needed Football Games: Wednesday afternoons Football season runs from 1st of September through October Basketball Games: Wed. and Fridays December through end of January.
