CE 102 PROBLEM 4 SOLUTION A

Problem Time required to fill Reser Stadium with a fire hose (assuming no leaking or seeping during the process). Given: One fire hose, No leaking or seeping Find: Time required to fill Reser Stadium

Individual Estimates Kyle- 7 days Corrin- 10 days Margo- 8 days

Team Methods Find dimensions of stadium in cubic feet Estimate gallons per second a fire hose releases. Using this information find how many days it will take to fill Reser Stadium.

Assumptions Reser Stadium- 10,800,000 cubic feet Fire hose- 5 gallons/second 1.5 gallons in cubic foot

Solutions 10,800,000 cb. Ft. x 1.5 gallons/cb ft.= 16,200,000 cubic gallons 16,200,000cb. Gal/ 5 gal/sec= 3,240,000 seconds 3,240,000 sec/3600 sec/hour= 900 hours 900 hours/24hours per day= 37.5 days
