Italy PhD - Doctor of Philosophy (Dottorato di Ricerca) ASSUMPTION The PhD is the third level of university education and is the highest degree of specialization offered by the University for both academic and business careers PhD courses are subject to the accreditation by the National Ministry of Education, with the assent of the ANVUR (National Agency for the evaluation of the Italian University system) The duration of the course is three years PhD courses may be activated by single universities; consortia of universities; consortia between universities and companies which carry out documented R&D activities

Italy PhD - Doctor of Philosophy (Dottorato di Ricerca) ASSUMPTION The admission is made on the basis of a public competition. The selection is carried out by universities on the basis of its own regulations The title of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is awarded following the successful evaluation of a research thesis that contributes to the advancement of knowledge or methodologies in the field of study chosen Each year, the total number of PhD students depends on the University’s budget. The Ministry contributes annually to the funding of doctoral activated by universities (others resources can came from the university and other partners). There are students with doctoral fellowship and others without

D’Annunzio The stakeholders Council of Teachers Each doctoral course has its own board of teachers and a coordinator. The Board consists of professors from the University, framed in the field or in the scientific areas relevant to the course itself, with the approval of the Board of the Department of Belonging. It can also have professors from other universities The Academic Board oversees the overall training activities of the PhD and performs planning and guidance of PhD students in scientific research

D’Annunzio The stakeholders Doctoral School Universities can provide the activation of one or more Doctoral Schools. The school is responsible for the activation and management of activities common to all the PhD courses of the University: -coordinates the doctoral courses -approves the training projects, including the general scientific and educational addresses decided by the university -verifies the results

D’Annunzio The stakeholders Partners The PhD council can develop collaborations with different partners such as: -other universities  in Italy in order to enrich the educational offer and the development of joint programs and to optimize the use of resources  abroad, in order to organize seminars attracting International Professors and to give the opportunity to our students to spend part of their PhD in foreign institutions Please note that the regulation provides that each PhD student must spend at least 6 months abroad

D’Annunzio The stakeholders Partners -private and public companies for Industrial PhD (new frontiers)  An Industrial PhD project is a three-year industrially focused PhD project where the student is hired by a company and enrolled at a university at the same time  In carrying out the research project the fellow applies the knowledge and technology of the university to the benefit of the enterprise, which through this acquires advanced knowledge and valuable technical skills

D’Annunzio Educational Goals -The PhD program aims to train skills needed to exercise, in enterprises, research institutions and other public and private activities of high quality research in the following areas: “Banking, corporate finance, accounting” (SH1_6); “Competitiveness, innovation, research and development” (SH1_7); “Consumer choice, behavioural economics, marketing” (SH1_8); “Organization studies, strategy” (SH1_9); “Human resource management, labour economics” (SH1_10); “Public administration” (SH1_11)

D’Annunzio The Teaching Plan YE AR ACTIVITIESEXPECTED RESULTS I Training activities (courses) (36 credits); The development and presentation of the research proposal (21 – 24 credits) Support the supervisor in teaching activities (0-3 credits) o Presentation of the research proposal II Training activities (24 credits) Research project (33-36 credits) Support the supervisor in teaching activities (0-3 credits) o Presentation of a paper at a conference of national/international context in which selection procedures are carried out with referee o Acceptance of the research proposal by a foreign university for a period of research / study abroad III Research project and the preparation of the thesis (57-60 credits) Support the supervisor in teaching activities (0-3 credits) o Presentation of a second paper at a national / international o Drafting and discussion of the doctoral thesis
